Welcome

This blog is about my first Atlantic Crossing as crew on board the Swan 51, Northern Child. I few to Las Palmas on Wednesday the 17th November 2010 to meet my 9 fellow crew members for the first time. We were about to sail in the racing division of the ARC 2010 to St Lucia in the Carribean. The race started on Sunday November the 21st 2010, depending on wind and currents it was expected to take us between 14-18 days to complete the 2,900 mile crossing.

Getting Ready

For the first time I've started to think about my adventure. What prompted me was receiving this kit list by email. 8 days and counting before I fly out!

Northern Child Kit List ARC 2010

The yacht provides towels, oilskins, life jackets and harnesses.
Please bring the following:-
  • T-shirts and shorts (that you will be able to wash on board during the crossing)
  • 1  pair of quick dry trousers
  • 1 sailing jacket or fleece
  • Swimming trunks
Otherwise you should take with you:_
  • Passport
  • Personal medicines
  • Small head torch preferably able to do red as well
  • Personal toiletries, including sun cream
  • Deck shoes or white-sole trainers (no black soled shoes)
  • Sailing gloves
  • Cap or Hat
  • Soft kit bag (no wheels, studs or hard cases will be allowed aboard)
