Welcome

This blog is about my first Atlantic Crossing as crew on board the Swan 51, Northern Child. I few to Las Palmas on Wednesday the 17th November 2010 to meet my 9 fellow crew members for the first time. We were about to sail in the racing division of the ARC 2010 to St Lucia in the Carribean. The race started on Sunday November the 21st 2010, depending on wind and currents it was expected to take us between 14-18 days to complete the 2,900 mile crossing.

Now the Race Begins

So at last we are off. I have no time to write anything much this morning it's all too busy and probably this will be my last post for two or three days.

The start is at 14.20 today.

Last night the two watches went out separately and from now on we will hardly meet. We will work 4 hours on, 4 hours off, 4 hours on, 6 hours off, 6 hours on and then start again.

My watch is
Andy: The Housebuilder (Our Watch Leader)
Mark: The Police Inspector
Jerome: The French Management Consultant,
Judith: The Lady Who Sails Catamarans
and myself.

For the next 15 plus days we will be trying to make sure Northern Child  sails more miles on our watch than it does when the Five Big Men From Holland are in charge.

May Zephyr and Neptune look kindly on our endeavours.
