Welcome

This blog is about my first Atlantic Crossing as crew on board the Swan 51, Northern Child. I few to Las Palmas on Wednesday the 17th November 2010 to meet my 9 fellow crew members for the first time. We were about to sail in the racing division of the ARC 2010 to St Lucia in the Carribean. The race started on Sunday November the 21st 2010, depending on wind and currents it was expected to take us between 14-18 days to complete the 2,900 mile crossing.

My Fellow Crew

Apart from the skipper Christian Reynolds and first mate Lucy Jones  the only thing I know about the 9 other people I am going to be racing, living, working, eating with  for the next two to three weeks is their names :-

E.H.M..Verhulst, Andy Stakes, Christian Nauta , Dirk-Jan Schuld , Jerome Roret ,Judy Ross ,Mark Robertson, Erik van der Dussen ,Taco Van Der Dussen.

The previous owner of Northern Child, Julian Sincock told me that after 13 ARC crossings he felt that apart from safety, the most important aspect of the whole adventure, wasn't how fast the boat sailed but that everyone arrived in St Lucia as friends. Apparently in his estimation for at least 50% of the yachts on the ARC that doesn't happen!
