Welcome

This blog is about my first Atlantic Crossing as crew on board the Swan 51, Northern Child. I few to Las Palmas on Wednesday the 17th November 2010 to meet my 9 fellow crew members for the first time. We were about to sail in the racing division of the ARC 2010 to St Lucia in the Carribean. The race started on Sunday November the 21st 2010, depending on wind and currents it was expected to take us between 14-18 days to complete the 2,900 mile crossing.

The Prologue: Part One

When November with his sweet winds has calmed the hurricans of the Carribean then sailors long to congregate in Gran Canaria. And congregate they do! An amazing event with 250 boats crowded into the habour and every cafe and bar filled with sailors, their crew and friends and family. All with one intent; having a good time and sailing to St Lucia

I arrived  safely along with another of the crew , Mark  and we were met by Lucy The First Mate. The Boat was being filled with water and supplies. Everyone was busy

After one day  the list of names that meant nothing to me is now being substituted by characters and their lives. The French Consultant, The  Woman who Races Catmarans, The Dutch Men, The Policeman,The Skipper, The First Mate.

All of them will have time to tell their stories and hopefully, betwen racing and sailing I'll have some time to write them down
